THE SETUP:
We wanted to blend rustic and woodsy cabin life with modern design and luxurious comforts! The living area floor plan is wide open, so you can cook breakfast while others curl up with a coffee and book on the couch. You can hit the slopes which are a very short drive away, and then unwind afterwards in the jacuzzi. Then bring a glass of wine outside on the patio and enjoy lake views. You'll find treasures in all the nooks and crannies of our cabin--from coffee table books, to the antler chandelier, to faux (but very cozy) candles, to the retro Nintendo system perfect for the kids. Big Bear truly has something for everyone, and Green Mountain Retreat is the perfect "home base" for you after you're done exploring for the day. This is our family cabin and we absolutely love this space, so please let us know if you need anything at all and we can usually get you accomodated. :)
LIVING-ROOM:
Upon entering the cabin, you'll walk into a wide open living space defined by the black high ceilings. The living area features a dining table for 5, open kitchen with massive island perfect for cooking/entertaining, and a living room with TV/Nintendo. You can stream the latest Netflix hit or set the kids up on Nintendo while you cook dinner! The couch seats 3-4 and there's another chair in the living room so 5 can easily hang out together. We are stocked with board games if you want to compete against your family/friends on an evening "in." The entire cabin has forced air central heating to keep it nice and toasty during the winter, as well as forced air central cooling to keep cool during those warm summer days!
KITCHEN + DINING:
Our fully remodeled kitchen, with custom floating shelves, new appliances, and everything you need to cook with is ready for you to whip up nourishing mountain meals! The open concept is perfect because one or two people can be cooking while others are lounging right nearby. It's also easy to keep an eye on the kids! The kitchen is fully stocked with all the cookware, glassware, and utensils you could ever need! We have a brand new dishwasher to knock out those dishes after you're done making your signature dish. The modern round dining table inside seats 5 and is located right next to the kitchen for ease of serving. We know you will make yourselves right at home in this kitchen!
BEDROOM 1:
The bedroom on your left when you're leaving the living room is the "master" because it connects to the bathroom. It also features a round mirror, luggage rack, bedside table, dresser, and lots of cabin decor. It has a comfy queen bed and room for the pack and play (provided) if you brought a babe with you! Both bedrooms have a closet with hangers so you can hang up your coats and keep them out of your way. This bedroom is layered, comfortable, and beautiful, and you are sure to wake up well rested!
BEDROOM 2:
This bedroom is on your right when you're leaving the living room. It does not connect through to the bathroom, but the bathroom has 2 entrances so you simply head down the hall and there is a bathroom entrance for you. It has a queen bed, fluffy duvet, and incredibly soft rug. This bedroom also features a closet, luggage rack, standing mirror, dresser, 2 night stands, and a lounge chair for reading or putting on your shoes. Even though it is not the master, we love this bedroom--when you look out the window it looks like you are amongst the trees and it's just so cozy and inviting!
LIVING ROOM SLEEPING AREA:
The West Elm living room couch pulls out into a queen bed! We have slept on it and it is actually truly comfortable. Bedding/pillows for the pull out are in the utility room.
BATHROOM:
This fully remodeled bathroom features charming terra cotta tile flooring, a bath tub (perfect for the kiddos), huge vanity, floating shelves, a large mirror, and a luxury toilet. The brand new bright shower tile blends perfectly with the gorgeous warmth of the terra cotta floors. The shower curtain was printed uniquely for our cabin. The tub also features a matte black showerhead, so you can choose whether you feel like soaking in the tub or showering. We brought in luxury bath sheets, because scratchy cheap ones just don't cut it after a long day hitting the slopes! Lastly, we've provided a shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispenser just in case you don't want to bring up your own.
GARAGE:
We are thrilled to be able to offer our guests a dry and spacious garage to pull into. It fits one large car (we also have some items stored in the garage). The other parking spot is directly in front of the garage on the driveway.
THE SPOT:
The cabin is in one of the first neighborhoods you pass as you drive up to Big Bear via the 18. It's really close to trail heads (walkable to one, in fact), and is a very short drive to the Lake, Convention Center, the slopes, and The Village. The Happy Hills trailhead is a 2 minute walk from our front door!! One of the two Big Bear trash collection sites is also very closeby, which is extremely convenient as Big Bear Lake does not allow trash to be left on the property and from some cabins, the trash sites are 10+ minutes away. There's not much in Big Bear that you can't get to from our cabin with a very short drive.
SECURITY DEPOSIT:
We trust you and choose not to charge a security deposit. Please just message Mark or Christie if anything happens or something breaks--it happens! Just talk to us and we will figure it out. :)
JACUZZI:
Guests are welcome to use our outdoor jacuzzi. The towels are in the utility room. The Jacuzzi is open from 7AM-10PM and is the perfect place to unwind after a long day in Big Bear!
NO PARTIES:
Our cabin is intended for guests looking for a little R&R. Parties of any kind are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. You will be charged $500 per person, per day/night for each unregistered guest.
NO ANIMALS:
While we love fur babies, pets are unfortunately not allowed at our cabin.
SECURITY CAMERAS/NOISE AWARE:
For security purposes, we have 2 outdoor security cameras (one over the garage and one near our front door). We also have indoor and outdoor "NoiseAware" technology that pings us if our guests are being so loud that they could be disrupting neigbors. Please know that we deeply value your privacy and these technologies are ONLY used if we suspect that house rules are being broken.
EV OUTLET:
There is an electric vehicle outlet next to the driveway. Feel free to use it!
You'll need to bring your charging cable.
HVAC:
We are thrilled to be able to offer both central forced heat AND central forced air. We are one of the few cabins on the mountain to offer central air conditioning (we use it more than you'd think in the summer months and our guests have been thankful for it!). The thermostat is in the hallway. Please set it according to your own comfort.
LAUNDRY:
There is a stackable washer and dryer in the utility room at the back of the house.
CLEANING SERVICE:
Our cabin is cleaned after each stay by our wonderful cleaner who knows our home inside and out.
NEIGHBORHOOD LIFE:
Due to our convenient location and the fact that we're located in a residential neighborhood, it's important to be aware that you will experience all that comes with typical "neighborhood life" (neighbors nearby, the occasional car going by, people going on strolls, etc.). Overall, the cabin is in a quiet and tucked away portion of Big Bear, but we do have neighbors nearby! We recommend using a car to get around Big Bear.
We are located just steps away from hiking trails (Happy Hills Trail) and City Hall in Big Bear Lake.
We are located 5 minutes to the Big Bear Village (best restaurants) and 5 minutes from Boulder bay. (Great for a picnic/ Photos) We are about 10 minutes to the slopes / Starbucks / Vons.
Big Bear Lake sits approximately 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. Altitude ranges from 6,750 to 9,000 feet and there are over 300 days of sunshine each year. Summer temps average 80 degrees during the day and 45 degrees at night. Winter brings the beautiful snowfall with temperatures in the low 40's during the day, and mid 20's at night.
Wildlife flourishes in Big Bear's alpine forest environment. The area is home to bald eagles, bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, deer and numerous other species. About 29 species of rare plants, ten of which are indigenous to the area, are protected in the Valley. Big Bear Lake is a manmade, fresh water lake seven miles long and about 1/2 mile wide. Maximum depth can reach 72 feet and the shoreline spans over 22 miles. Big Bear is home to one of the nation's few solar observatories and alpine zoos for injured wildlife.
Our community specializes in outdoor recreation like fishing, water sports, hiking, biking, horseback riding, winter sports and more. A 9-hole golf course, 7 public campgrounds, great restaurants, entertainment and shopping offer an experience for everyone to enjoy. The Big Bear City Airport is open 24 hours per day and is equipped for night landings.
We find that a car is the easiest way to get around Big Bear!
This is our family cabin, and we are so honored to be able to welcome you to it. Please know that we are very easily accessible before, during, and after your stay and we work hard to make sure every single guest we host has a fabulous experience in stunning Big Bear Lake!!
